Eric’s NCAA Top 25 Rankings (Week 2/Week 3)

This week saw another set of exciting upsets, covid effected schedules and some teams making their case to join the rankings. After the following week, here is the updated top 25 rankings. 

1. Louisville (5-0) Prev Ranking: 5

Before having to shut down team operations due to covid, Louisville was the best team seen so far this season and it might not have been close 

2. Stanford (4-0) Prev Ranking: 4

After some original schedule reconstruction, Stanford appears like they will be in contention for #1 the entire season and in the Pac-12  

3. UConn (1-0) Prev Ranking: 3

The long-awaited season for the Huskies got underway this last weekend and the 20-21 season and Paige Bueckers-era have started with a win. This week they will kick off their Big East portion of the schedule. 

4. NC State (6-0) Prev Ranking: 7

The Wolfpack have arguably the biggest win of the season with their win at then-ranked #1 South Carolina. They then started their ACC season with a comeback victory over Boston College. 

5. Arizona (4-0) Prev Ranking: 6

Arizona has started out with three straight conference wins and have early control over the Pac-12 conference race. 

6. South Carolina (4-1) Prev Ranking: 1

The Gamecocks rebounded from a disappointing performance against NC State with a forceful win at Iowa State. They will be highly tested once they start the SEC portion of their schedule. 

7. Baylor (3-1) Prev Ranking: 2

Baylor ran into a fired up and high-scoring Arkansas team in their first loss. They are expected to be at the top of the Big 12 this season. 

8. Oregon (5-0) Prev Ranking: 9

Oregon is staying right on track with Arizona in the conference race as they are sitting at 3-0 as well. They appear to be one of the best scoring teams in the country.

9. UCLA (4-1) Prev Ranking: 10 

The Bruins only misstep this season came at the hands of Arizona. UCLA has all the pieces to compete in the PAC-12 race. They have contests with California and a must-see matchup with Stanford coming up. 

10. Texas A&M (6-0) Prev Ranking: 11

The Aggies showed they can rise up to the occasion when they went into Texas and got the win. They now have three more non-conference games before starting the SEC season with a matchup with Tennessee. 

11. Kentucky (6-0) Prev Ranking: 12

The Wildcats picked up an impressive win at home over Indiana and now have a matchup with DePaul on deck before they start the SEC season with a must-see matchup with Arkansas. 

12. Arkansas (7-1) Prev Ranking: 17

Arkansas showed they learned from their Maryland loss and put up an impressive offensive showcase against Baylor. They have the guard play and scoring to stick with almost any team in the country. 

13. Mississippi State (2-1) Prev Ranking: 8

The Bulldogs got tripped up by South Florida on the road and will look to regroup with three more non-conference games before they enter the firepit that is the SEC conference. 

14. Indiana (2-1) Prev Ranking: 13

Indiana looks to rebound from a tough loss to Kentucky. They are one of the most talented teams in the Big Ten and will be hard to slow down for conference foes. 

15. Maryland (3-1) Prev Ranking: 16

Maryland will open up the Big Ten season with Rutgers and look to make up the loss of Angel Reese throughout conference play. 

16. Michigan (5-0) Prev Ranking: NR

The Wolverines have one of the most complete starting five groups in not only the Big Ten conference, but in the country. They are expected to be at the top of the conference race all season long. 

17. Missouri State (3-1) Prev Ranking: 18

The Lady Bears have a rivalry game with Missouri coming up before entering the Missouri Valley Conference play

18. Syracuse (4-0) Prev Ranking: 19

Syracuse has been steadily getting more and more comfortable with each other on the court. The difficult ACC awaits them

19. Northwestern (1-0) Prev Ranking: 23

The Wildcats were one of the last power five teams to start their season and they seem to have picked up right where they left last season with a dominating win over Eastern Illinois

20. Oregon State (3-2) Prev Ranking: 15

The Beavers have stumbled out of the conference gate with a home loss to Utah and on the road at their rival Oregon 

21. Ohio State (4-0) Prev Ranking: NR

The Buckeyes have been rolling past opponents so far and are looking to be a contender in the Big Ten conference 

22. Florida State (2-0) Prev Ranking: 22

The Seminoles have started the season with two somewhat easy wins. Another team waiting for their first challenge 

23. Texas (4-1) Prev Ranking: 21

Their game with Tennessee was cancelled due to covid and they are looking for their next high-level opportunity to make people forget about their loss to Texas A&M

24. Gonzaga (3-2) Prev Ranking: 20

Gonzaga finished the weekend with a hard-fought win over Montana

25. Michigan State (4-0) Prev Ranking: NR

The Spartans have started the Big Ten season with two wins over Minnesota and Iowa. They are looking like a Darkhorse in the conference
