Ava has a high basketball IQ and strong shooter. She is a very strong defender.
8th Grade
Played for Prior Lake HS. Averaged 11 points, 2 steals and 3 rebounds per game.
Fall Exclusive 2023 Ava showed off her impressive physicality from the guard position at the Fall Exclusive. Off the bounce, she was able to body through contact and overpower defenders for strong finishes off the bounce. Another aspect to her using her strength is that she is not afraid to try and backdown smaller guards and score on them with her back to the basket. She also was one of the better rebounding guards at the event and showed her willingness to compete with post players and try and secure tough rebounds. Her area of opportunity would be continuing to work on and refine a midrange pullup jumper. At times, with her power going to the basket, she put herself in a situation where smaller guards could use her power against her to draw charges where a smooth pullup would negate that possibility. MN LVL Up Combine 2023 Ava showed off that she is a capable scorer who her team could rely on for buckets. She showed a nice smooth jump shot with a high follow-through. She did a good job scoring from around the basket as well as out to the perimeter. She also showed she is good at knowing when to keep the ball moving and she was willing to turn down good shots to try and get the great shot from a teammate. Her area of opportunity is to continue to work on and tighten up her handles with the ball. At times she appeared uncomfortable handling the ball against pressure and just continuing to work on that will help her game take the next step. MN AAU State Prelims 2023 Brynteson played the entire weekend with poise and under control. There was never a time when she was on the court where it seemed that she was out of control or allowing teams to speed her up. She showed strong shot selection often and never was one to force a bad shot and kept the ball moving when she was on the court. When Ava looked to score the ball, she showed a nice ability to finish when she got looks around the rim as well as a smooth-running jumper from inside the paint even which showed her impressive touch on the shot. Her area of opportunity would be to have more confidence and willingness to take scoring opportunities. In her willingness to be a pass-first player, she at times seemed to pass up strong scoring options for herself. She had good space from behind the arc or off the bounce that she could of looked to take advantage of more often to make the defense pay for giving her that space. Fall Exclusive 2022 Ava was absolutely on fire from 3-point range throughout the 3 weeks and might have even left scorch marks on the nets. She showed a determination to find her space behind the arc either off the ball and coming off screens or running to the openings however, she also showed she was capable of creating enough space behind the arc off the bounce and pulling up quickly and hitting as the defender continued to move backwards. She also played with impressive energy when it came to the rebounding. She showed no fear in getting inside the paint and fighting with the taller players for tough rebounds and multiple times was able to outrun opposing players to the ball. Her area of opportunity would be to continue to work on adding a shot fake to her skillset. With her outside shooting ability, opponents will come out hard to try and run her off the line and she should use the momentum against them for a chance at an open shot. MN Featured40 2022 Ava showed off really good defensive instincts and good quickness with her hands in coming up with steals. Multiple times, she waited for her matchup to get loose with the ball or ease up and she would pounce in and knock the ball away and come up with the ball. She also moved her feet well in the full-court press defense. She used her speed to beat players to their spots and force them into poor passes or rushed shots. On offense, she showed a reliable jump shot and didn’t allow defenders to force her into poor shot selections. Her area of opportunity would be adding a floater or runner to her game. With her smooth shooting stroke, she has the skills that could give her a lethally accurate floater or running jumper.
