MN State Prelims 2022

Ella brings relentless energy to each and everything she does on the court however, this weekend she showed that she also can bring a deadly accurate outside shot to the court. She hit multiple 3-point shots in each game she played this weekend and she showed that she has such a high-level read to know when she has the amount of space she needs to get the shot off and doesn’t hesitate to pull the shot. She also is the type of defender who can wear down her matchup with getting physical and boding up opponents to stop them from getting to their desired spot. Her area of opportunity would be working on being more selective when it comes to going for steals or reaching in for steals or deflections. At times, she gets caught with hands in the cookie jar and called for fouls or puts her opponent to the free-throw line. With her high energy and intensity on defense, working on just being more selective could take her defense to the high level and keep her on the court for longer.

Ella played at the event with an intense determination that was enjoyable to watch. On defense, she moved her feet extremely well and flustered multiple ball handlers into turnovers or deflections. She showed that she could burn the defense from outside the arc if they gave her any ounce of daylight however, her strongest offensive weapon on this day was creating off the bounce and either getting herself to the free-throw line or finishing over or around defenders in the paint. She had a lethally quick first step and there were very few players who were able to keep her in front of them. Her area of opportunity would be continuing to work and perfect a midrange pullup jumper. With her ability to hit from both close the basket and 3-point range, she could really put a stranglehold around the defense if she also could stop on a dime and drill the pullup jumper.


Summer Showcase (July 2021)

Ella is as complete of a scorer as you will see. She can flat out full up the stat sheet. She is comfortable and capable of scoring from all three levels on the court. She showed the ability to get her feet set quickly behind the arc and launch the long ball before defenders can even react and try and contest the shot. Off the bounce, she does a good job of putting her head down and powering past multiple defenders and then finishing the close-range shot. On defense, she can be like an eagle zoned in on their prey as she watches for openings or weak passes to pounce and then quickly get out in transition for quick buckets the other way. Ella was also one of the more physical guards seen at the event. There was no backdown from her and she really put a lot of pressure on her matchup and moved her feet to not allow ball handlers to get around her or past her. Her area of opportunity would be to continue to work on focusing in her defensive intensity. At times, with her physicality, she would body up or reach in and that could lead to foul trouble. If she can work to harness that energy and continue to use her defensive skills, she will be a nightmare to go against and will be able to stay on the court longer to disruptive longer.
