Play for Kay at Carrollwood Day School in Tampa turned into the best late season event in the state of Florida last weekend.
Ultimately the slot slated for the state of Florida could have been decided in Lake Highland Prep’s win over Tampa Bay Tech in the showcase game of the event. Here is a quick run down of the top players and games of the one day shootout.
Here are 4 Players which caught our eye at the event.
Kayla Blackshear (2021 – Lake Highland Prep) – With 4 Power 5 front court players on the floor Blackshear shined brightest. In talking about the best players in 2021 in Florida often times she is over looked because she is not as flashy as some of the other names and does not have elite size. In the end productivity makes Blackshear one of the top front court players in the state and a national name in 2021. Blackshear outscored the Tampa Bay Tech front court and was the most productive front court player on her own team in Lake Highland’s win.
Jayla Murray (2021 – Tampa Bay Tech) – On a team with the No. 2 Player in the country per ESPN and another Top 100 Prospect its easy to overlook Jayla Murray. Murray hit a huge 3 late and was Tech’s 2nd leading scorer in the close loss to Lake Highland. Murray can play multiple positions on the floor and is totally unselfish on how she’s used in high school. In a game with 4 Power 5 front court players its easy to say she “belonged” and was not out classed. She looked like one of the most underrated players in the state in the biggest game of the year in Florida.
Morgan Dillard (2021 – Seminole) – Morgan Dillard is quietly having one of the best seasons in the state of Florida. She scored her 1000th career point on Saturday night against Gulf Coast and nearly led her team back from a double digit deficit to win against Gulf Coast. Dillard can create her own shot or set up a teammate to score every time down the floor and caught the eyes of the SEC who were on hand for the event.
Aryana Dizon (2021 – Carrollwood Day) – One of the most vivid plays of the weekend was Aryana Dizon’s big block against Chaniya Clark which sparked four straight points for the 2021 Forward and put Carrollwood Day in cruise control early in the first half against Fort Myers. Dizon plays on a loaded Carrollwood team which sports two other Division I signees in their front court. Dizon has come a long way in a year she’s become a consistent finisher who can block shots, run the floor, and defend on the perimeter. Her mini run of block shots and scoring epitomized the growth in her game and foreshadows was is going to be a big spring and summer for Dizon.
