Day 3 of the Select 40 East was filled with entertaining games and high-level point guard play. Skilled post players as well as up & coming young talent in the paint didn’t disappoint. It takes a certain level of grit and determination to stand out on day 3 of an event and the players below definitely showed their heart and skill on Sunday.
Here is a look at the standout players from Day 3 at Select 40 Session 1 (East):
- Grace Gambotz – 2024 – Illinois Lady Lightning 17U
Gambotz is a heady PG that excels with the ball in her hands. She wants to facilitate and run her team and it shows; an elite passer that has great use of head/body fakes. Gambotz plays with great pace and tempo while also shooting the 3 well.
- Elyssa Phillips – 2025 – Carolina Waves 17U
Phillips showed great lead guard skills and a great control of tempo. She is efficient when attacking the rim and her drives allow her to create scoring opportunities for her teammates. Phillips has great court vision and is phenomenal in transition. Maybe the best part of her game however, is her ability to get to her pull-up J and when she gets to it, it’s deadly.
- Carleyssia Wallace – 2026 – East Coast United Family 2026
Wallace is a strong, physical post that can hold it down in the paint. She is still growing into her strength but can create space on the block. She is a volume rebounder who is always attacking the glass on both ends. Wallace has good hands and the ability to score effectively in the paint.
- Mi Angel Harrell – 2026 – MAC Basketball 2026
Harrell has the build and motor to be a presence on both ends of the floor. She is already a relentless rebounder, runs the floor well, and showed the ability to finish in transition. Harrell uses her body to create great position on the block and finished on both sides of the rim.
- Madison Zavasky – 2024 – SLAAM 24 Hurt
Zavasky is a ‘do it all’ forward that can fill a stat sheet. She works hard to secure rebounds and can lead the break off a rebound. Zavasky can face up and score from the perimeter while also showing a great ability to finish in the paint.
- Zoe Guice – 2024 – Legends Impact 2024
Guice is all over the floor and makes an impact on both ends of the floor. She is a solid lead guard that can run your team & push in transition; she controls the tempo of the game and has the understanding to do so. An aggressive on-ball defender, she may have led the Select 40 in charges taken this weekend.
- Samantha Sullivan – 2026 – MCW NH 2026
Sullivan has great size and showed the ability to play multiple positions. She has a quick release on her 3 and knocks them down with regularity. She is a knock down shooter in catch & shoot situations and has the ability to spread the defense.
- Marisa Taylor – 2026 – Team Tre 16U
Taylor has great size and moves well. She can catch anything thrown her way and doesn’t get rushed on the block. Taylor showed great moves and counter moves while also being able to pass out of double teams well. She is an effective rebounder that is consistently working to get position inside.
- Ashlynn Van Tassell – 2024 – WV Thunder 17U Select
Van Tassell is a do it all post that will catch any pass thrown in her direction. She uses her body well to create scoring opportunities in the paint and is agile around the rim. Van Tassell has the ability to face up and attack from the perimeter. She is an excellent rebounder with a great motor.
- MacKenzie Givens – 2024 – Legends U 17U
MacKenzie is an athletic wing that can attack her opponents in a multitude of ways. She gets down-hill aggressively and her strength allows her to finish thru contact. She has great elevation on her pull-up jumper and an excellent rebounder from the perimeter.
