As of today, there are five undefeated teams left in women’s college basketball. In this article, we look at each team’s upcoming schedule and make our prediction of when, or if, they’ll face their first loss.
Georgia Tech
Next four opponents: Virginia Tech, Louisville, #3 Notre Dame, Clemson
Georgia Tech is on a roll, racking up multiple ranked wins and solidifying themselves as one of the hottest teams in the nation. I predict they’ll keep the momentum going with victories over Virginia Tech and Louisville before their streak comes to an end against #3 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish present a challenging match-up for nearly every team in the country — and Georgia Tech will be no exception.
LSU
Next four opponents: #16 Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Florida, #2 South Carolina
LSU is looking scary good — dare I say even better than their 2023 National Championship squad? Don’t hold me to that take just yet. The Tigers face a tough challenge this week against Tennessee, but I’m betting they’ll stay undefeated until they clash with #2 South Carolina. Playing in Columbia is no easy task and the Gamecocks rarely lose at home, but this is a must-watch showdown that’s sure to deliver.
Ohio State
Next four opponents: #25 Michigan, Oregon, Wisconsin, Penn State
The Buckeyes have been must-watch basketball this season, and their success is no accident, this is a really good team. Their upcoming game against Michigan is intriguing, and they’ll host #8 Maryland at the end of the month. But I don’t see Ohio State taking a loss until they face #1 UCLA in early February. Buckeye fans should enjoy the ride, as their undefeated streak could last a few more weeks!
Maryland
Next four opponents: #4 USC, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas
Maryland has a lot of new faces this season, but leave it to Brenda Frese to work her magic and assemble a Top 10 team. The Terps have some tough matchups ahead, including two ranked opponents and a Minnesota squad currently receiving votes. I think they’ll hold on to their undefeated record until they meet Texas in the Coretta Scott King Classic, and you can bet I’ll be glued to my screen for that one.
UCLA
Next four opponents: Purdue, Northwestern, Penn State, Baylor
It’s no surprise that UCLA is this good, but every time I watch them, I’m even more impressed. Lauren Betts is playing at a National Player of the Year level, and the players around her have stepped up every time it’s mattered. I’ve looked at their remaining schedule, and while it’s hard to imagine they won’t slip up somewhere, I just can’t pinpoint where. They’ve got two more matchups with USC and a tough February stretch featuring Ohio State, Michigan State, and Iowa. Come tournament time, don’t be surprised if they’re still #1, and still perfect.
